MOUNT SIGUNIANG
Mount Siguniang is well known as the “Oriental Alps” and called as Siguniangshan in Chinese, literally mean “Four Sisters Mountain”. It is located in Rilong Town, Xiaojin County, Aba Tibetan & Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China.
In 2006, Mount Siguniang National Park which is part of Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries have been declared as Unesco Heritage Site.
As its name, Mount Siguniang encompassed of four peaks, Dafeng (5025m), Erfeng (5276m), Sanfeng (5355m) and Yaomeifeng (6250m).
DAFENG PEAK HIKE
For the hike, we will attempt to summit the Older Sister Peak or in Chinese translated as “Dafeng”. The trail start at Changping Village, go thru Haizi Valley and all the way to the basecamp just under the summit.
We will spend three days in the mountain. On day 1, we hike to our first campsite next to Da Haizi Lake. The next day we continue to hike to the basecamp. On the last day, we will make an early morning summit attempt and by afternoon we will descend to Changping Village.
Day 1: Fly to Chengdu
Fly to Chengdu Shuangliao Airport. Upon arrival, we will move to city center by chartered transport and check-in to our hotel. Then, we will get our lunch continue with city sightseeing and visit hiking gear shop.
Day 2: Rilong
After breakfast, we will move to Rilong and stay at Changping Village where the entrance to Changping Valley and Haizi Valley located. The travel is around 5 hours, we will make a stop at Gengda Panda Center halfway to Rilong. Everyone is welcome to enter the center by their own cost. We will spend one hour at the center and continue our journey to Rilong.
Day 3: Acclimatization
A day for acclimatization, we will do some easy half day walk at Changping Valley. Then, we will return back to our hotel at Changping Village.
Day 4: Hike to Da Haizi Lake
The first day of the Dafeng Hike. Today we start our hike from Changping Village to Da Haizi Lake. We will pass thru a vast grassland with the four peaks of Siguniang as the backdrop. Halfway thru the hike, we stop at Dajianbao, a small tea house to get our lunch break. Then, we will continue our hike to Da Haizi Lake. Tonight we will camp in a tent next to the lake.
Day 5: Hike to Dafeng Basecamp
We continue the hike to the Dafeng Basecamp, the hike become steep from here compare to the previous day as we will be zig-zaging the hill just above our campsite. As we arrived at the basecamp, we take our lunch and have a break. After that we have a short training on crampon usage. Then we have our dinner and our day as early as possible.
Day 6: Dafeng Summit
We start our day as early as possible, have our breakfast and be ready for our summit attempt. When everyone are ready, we start our hike to Dafeng Summit. Upon arriving at the mountain pass, we have to put on our crampon as the trail from here will be covered by snow. We expect to arrive at the summit after 4-5 hours, have a short break, celebrate our and have our photo session before we start to descend to the basecamp. Then we pack our things and continue to descend to Changping Village.
Day 7: Fly Home
The last day of the trip, we move to Chengdu by early morning and expect to arrive by afternoon. We do some sightseeing before we move to Shuangliao Airport for our flight home.
